I am terrible at revising my works. I generally spend an immense amount of time researching for the piece, and by the time it's over, the thought of changing it is dreadful. However, it is necessary!
What I like to do is to take the original pieces and delete everything but a sentence. Then rewrite the story using the surviving sentence, creating a fresh perspective. Then repeat the process. Ultimately, I combine the working elements from each specific rewrite.
Taking days to recharge, between each revision, helps bring in new perspectives as well.

wow. only a single sentence? that's pretty brave, but I can see how that would add a freshness or newness to the perspective if you just started all over again cause the story is still there inside you, if it's a good one worth telling.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds horrendous. I could never do that much work.
